Ken Taylor was the Canadian Ambassador to Iran when he and his wife, Pat, became Canadian heroes in 1980 for sheltering Americans during the seizure of the United States embassy in Tehran, and ultimately helping them escape Iran safely. The 2012 film Argo, which won three Academy Awards, is a fictionalized cinematic representation of the operation, which includes elements of both fact and fiction. Pamela Wallin
The Honourable Pamela Wallin, O.C., S.O.M., was appointed to the Senate of Canada on December 22, 2008. Pamela has been Honorary Colonel of the Royal Canadian Air Force since August 1, 2009. She is also the Chancellor Emerita of the University of Guelph. Pamela is an Officer of the Order of Canada, Canada's highest civilian honour. Pamela was Consul General of Canada in New York from 2002-2006. She continues her work as the Senior Advisor on Canada-US relations at the Americas Society and the Council of the Americas in New York.
Ken Taylor
A graduate of University of Toronto (Victoria) B.A. and the University of California Berkeley M.B.A., Ken Taylor joined the Canadian Foreign Service in 1959. On return from his posting in Iran as Canadian Ambassador during the revolution he received the United States Congressional Gold Medal, The Order of Canada and the keys to the city of New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas and Dallas. From 1998 to 2004 he served as Chancellor of Victoria University in The University of Toronto. He has recently visited Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, UAE, Sudan, China, London, Paris, Moscow, Colombia and Mexico on behalf of business interests. Ken Taylor resides in New York but visits Canada frequently.
Pat Taylor
Dr. Patricia E. Taylor has accompanied her husband Ken on his various foreign service postings in Guatemala City, Detroit, Karachi, London, Tehran, and New York City, and she has worked at research institutions in each of these places. Taylor has held a number of research fellowships and scholarships. She has also served on several Canadian, U.S. and World Health Organization public health and
expert scientific advisory committees. Taylor holds a Bachelor's degree in science, a First Class Honours degree in bacteriology, a Ph.D. in bacteriology and a Doctor of Laws (Honoris Causae) degree from St. Francis Xavier University, Nova Scotia, Canada.
